Akagijo Castle Ruins (Akagijoato)
Akagijo was built in 1588, which was designed by famous Takatora Todo who is assumed as one of the best castle architect in Japan. Castle walls preserve their original condition which were built solidly by greatly balanced fieldstones. The ruins only remain walls today, and they greatly stimulate the people's imagination. The ruins are standing in remote village surrounded by sacred mountains, cherry blossoms bloom all around the ruins in Spring, and rarely seen foggy morning also attract the photographers.
The castle is recorded as the top 100 castle ruins and national designated historic site.
